Laylee’s stirred at the sunlight when the wretched rays seeped through the blinds. She groaned, missing her smart house. Not being able to tell HEX to close the curtains, she truly appreciated home.

She took in the room August told her she would be staying in. One thing was missing.

The feeling of him was so far and faint she could barely feel it.

It was a foreign feeling of restlessness and emptiness.

She hated it, especially since she had unknowingly developed feelings for the prick. It all started as a sexual fantasy, and now she was tossed into obsession over him.

Her eyes roamed over the room, holding a hefty mixture of modern and antique decor. Her attention fell to a black bag sitting on a victorian looking chain in the corner of the room.

Her face lit up with glee as she hopped out of bed, snatching the bag open. There was a small note that only spoke three words.

“I’ll be back.”

With a huff, she turned her focus to finding her phone. Leafing through the contents, her clothing was all beautiful sundresses of different colors. No underwear or bra. Not that she wore underwear in the Texas heat in the first place. But the audacity of his assuming.

Then she finally found that little piece of plastic and glass she was looking for. After turning the screen on, she saw the bright red exclamation mark suggesting she had no data.

The phone was useless. The only thing she could read was a message from Selena, asking if Laylee was sure that she was okay with August taking her home.

Rolling her eyes, she tossed it back in the bag with a groan.

After showering in the attached bathroom, she put on an adorable white sundress with blue flowers spiraling through it. When she got dressed, her annoyance for August came back tenfold. He bit her, and now she had to play by these supernatural freak’s rules.

She needed to take her mind off the confusing emotions August had caused.

Laylee’s feet navigated through the halls of the Arbella Chateau by muscle memory only. Once she reached the bar area, the black-haired bartender relieved Sasha from bar duties the night before.

She restocked the shelves with more liquor before she caught Laylee sitting at one of the bar stools.

The woman’s brow arched, and the resting bitch face was strong with this one.

“Can I get a double shot of your strongest vodka, please,” Laylee requested.

The woman jutted her chin out with a sharp nod.

As she poured the drink, Laylee took the opportunity to scan for Sasha.

“Thank you! Can I have the bottle?” Laylee smiled, hoping it would help get her what she wanted.

The stone-faced woman did not care for her fake smile as she handed Laylee the bar and returned to stalking the liquor bottles.

Thanking the woman again, she took one long swig, the first two shots were already making her feel good, and the few sips she took straight out of the bottle made her feel even better.

“Didn’t you just wake up, Little Laylee?” Sasha’s sweet Russian accent called from behind.
